A little bit of Hollywood will grace Knoxville on April 17.
The premiere of Harriman writer/director Brooks Benjamin’s newest film “Boys of Summerville” will be held at 7 p.m. at Regal Cinema’s Downtown West Theater.
The story is about Peter Davis who grows up in the small town of Summerville. Following a family dispute, he decides to throw caution to the wind and move up north.
When his father dies, he goes back to his hometown to settle the family’s estate and leave his past behind.
However, Peter begins reuniting with friends and finds romance. This is when he realizes that small town life and his family were not really as bad as he remembered.
He faces the difficult choice of going back to his new home up north or returning to his roots.
“One of the characters in the movie, Charles “Buddy” Davis, was based on my father, Charles Davis Benjamin, who passed away from cancer in 2000. I wanted to make a movie as a tribute to him, and since he loved comedies and softball so much, I thought this would be a perfect movie to make,” Benjamin said.
“Boys of Summerville” was filmed throughout East Tennessee in cities like Rockwood, Kingston, Knoxville, Maryville, Harriman, Alcoa and Oak Ridge.
Some of the local Screen Actors Guild talent who performed in the movie include David Keith (“An Officer and a Gentleman,” “Behind Enemy Lines” and “Daredevil”), David Dwyer of Maryville (“October Sky,” “Remember the Titans” and “We are Marshall”) and Wes Murphy of Maryville (“Heaven and Hell,” “The Work and the Glory III”).
Several of the stars are scheduled to appear on the red carpets during the premiere prior to the film viewing.
